Does Üllo change the taste of wine?
Sulfites have a distinctly harsh, bitter taste that is often noticeable in wine. Although levels vary, white wines tend to have more sulfites than reds. Preliminary taste tests show that a majority of tasters notice a difference.
Can I remove sulfites from other products?
Üllo will remove sulfites from ANY BEVERAGE, including hard ciders and champagne, but the purification process may reduce carbonation and take longer for carbonated beverages.
For this reason, carbonated beverages are not recommended for purification with Üllo.
Does Removing sulfites prevent a headache?
At this time, there are no clinical trials proving this point.
How is Üllo different from its competitors?
Üllo is the only product that can remove sulfites selectively. Other products simply convert (or oxidize if you love chemistry terms) sulfites into other noxious chemicals or remove sulfites along with several other compounds in the process.
The selectivity of Üllo's filters means that they won't harm the flavor or aroma compounds in your wine – a significant benefit if you are a wine lover.

What’s the filter made of?
Üllo filters are made from a sophisticated material often used in industrial food processing and pharmaceutical APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients). Specifically, The filter is made from a food-grade, macroporous acrylic polymer. When activated, it captures free sulfites in wine by a reaction called covalent attachment.
How does the filter work?
The Selective Sulfite Capture Filter is the magic of Üllo! When activated, it captures free sulfites in wine by a reaction called covalent attachment. The beauty of this chemistry is that the reaction is selective for the most reactive components of wine, the sulfites, and no unintended “products” are introduced into the wine during purification. That is, the filter removes only the sulfites without adding anything back in. That’s the magic of Selective Sulfite Capture™ and what sets Üllo apart in wine purification. It’s why we invented the term!
How often do I need to change the filter?
Each Üllo Selective Sulfite Capture FilterTM is good for one bottle of wine (750ml). This is a consequence of the chemistry of the filter. Sulfites bind irreversibly to the filter and therefore once a filter becomes saturated with sulfites it can no longer bind additional sulfites from wine.
Can I reuse a filter?
We know it’s not always practical to finish a bottle of wine in one evening. We also know that filters are precious commodities! We have found that, when stored properly, a partially used filter can be re-used the next day on the same bottle of wine, with little loss of efficacy. Rinsing and refrigerating the filter can help to maintain its reactivity, so please follow the steps below before attempting to reuse a filter.
Step 1 : Rinse the filter under cold water for at least 5 seconds

Step 2 : Refrigerate the filter uncovered so the filter can dry

Step 3 : Reuse the filter to purify your remaining wine within 24 hours

For best results, we still recommend using a new Selective Sulfite Capture™ filter after three hours since its first use. This is because the surface of the filter is reactive and becomes “activated” when it gets wet with wine. During purification, the activated filter weakly interacts with the tannins in wine through a process called non-specific adsorption. Rinsing the filter helps to keep the filter active, for the same reason that washing a red wine stain before it dries keeps the stain from setting in.

Do I need to purchase filters for Üllo to work?
In order for Üllo to reduce sulfites in your wine, Selective Sulfite Capture filters will need to be purchased and used.
Can I use the Aerator without a Filter?
Yes, Üllo will work as an aerator even without a Selective Sulfite Capture(TM) Filter.

What are sulfites?
Sulfites are artificial chemicals added to wine as a preservative. They are a highly regulated food additive because they are common food allergens and are toxic at high levels. Sulfites protect wine against oxidation and bacterial spoilage during shipping and storage but are no longer needed once you open the bottle.

How does Üllo purify my wine?

Does Üllo work for champagne?
Yes, Üllo will remove sulfites from champagne, however, it will unfortunately remove champagnes carbonation as well.
Is there anything to do before using Üllo for the first time?
Üllo comes ready to use. However, we recommend giving the Üllo purifier a quick rinse with water before the first use.

How do I clean the purifier?
For best results, simply rinse the Üllo purifier under warm water to remove most of the wine residue. Soaking the Ülllo in hot, soapy water will remove any dried on wine.

Why is it taking a long time to filter a bottle of wine?
Most wines will take between 2-4 minute to filter a whole bottle. If the filtration process is taking longer, this is likely due to carbonation. While dissolved carbon dioxide is noticeable in some wines, sparkling wines and Champagne being the most obvious, many wines have trace amounts of dissolved carbon dioxide.
The dissolved carbon dioxide will form small bubbles inside the Selective Sulfite Capture™ filter and slow the flow of wine. Üllo is still removing sulfites, but it will take significantly longer to purify the wine.

Normally, most orders will process and be in our system within 1-2 business days. During times of peak demand it may take longer.

Why doesn't Hawaii or Alaska receive free shipping?
Unfortunately, shipping to Hawaii and Alaska is significantly more expensive than shipping to the continental 48 states.
While our team here at Üllo is a big fan of both those states, we unfortunately cannot offer free shipping to Hawaii or Alaska at this time.

What is Üllo's Return Policy?
If you purchased an Üllo product directly from www.ullowine.com and are not completely satisfied with our product, you may return it within THIRTY (30) DAYS of the purchase date. In order to initiate a return, please contact Customer Service by clicking here to receive a return authorization (RA) number.
We will reimburse you (excluding all shipping costs) for the purchase price of the returned Üllo products no later than thirty (30) days from the date of our receipt of such returned products as noted by the RMA. Üllo cannot reimburse for original or return shipping charges.
Items must be returned in their original condition and must include all original packaging and accessories. Üllo is not responsible for return items which become lost in transit.
*Please note that we are unable to accept returns for any purchased Sulfite filters. They are non-returnable and no refunds will be given.*
If you purchased your Üllo product from a retailer or received it as a gift, the item must be returned to the original place of purchase. Please contact the retailer directly for their return policy information.
Does Üllo have a warranty?
Üllo warrants that all our products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 6 (six) months from the date of purchase. We will, at our option, repair or replace any product that fails to comply with this warranty under normal use and following Üllo care instructions. Üllo may require presentation of the original proof of purchase to verify purchase date.
Üllo’s warranty does not cover wine used in conjunction with operation of the product(s).
